Trying to sell a GPU on Craigslist, got an email immediately from [email protected] claiming they were interested. I followed up, and they replied from [email protected] saying that they were out of town and that they would mail me a check for my GPU, so I said yeah sure and gave him my address to mail it to. I get the check and its for $3,400 when I'm only selling it for $300. I email him in confusion and they explained that I was to deposit the check and take out the excess funds to give to a "mover." The next day, I get a text from this number saying "Hello [My Full Name]". I tried calling this number and got a "this number has been disconnected" message.

Emailed me to purchase my sectional for sale on Craigslist. Same story as most posted already. Said they couldn't come look at the couch because of their daughters wedding and a busy work schedule. I asked for $600 for the couch, but they sent me $2,700. They asked me to let them know AS SOON AS I deposited the check into my account. They asked me to give the extra $2,100 to a mover they had coming to pick up the couch. I unfortunately had given them my home address as well as my phone number before I realized this was a scam. As soon as I got the check, it confirmed my suspicions even more. The check is clearly fake. Made out from a bank that does not exist anymore, from an investment company in Virginia. I let them know that I would NOT be depositing the check and that I was destroying it. I sent them a text with a screenshot of their plans of scamming me from the Craigslist website and I have not heard from them since. Sellers beware on Craigslist! I fell for it all at first because they were using Gmail accounts that literally seemed legit. Even after telling them I was not comfortable handling the money to pay their "mover", they were adamant that they "trusted" me and asked me multiple times to confirm with them as soon as the check was deposited.

Sent a check for $2,400 for a craigslist item that was originally $350. They used a closed business (Red Leaf Chicago LLC/DigitalMint) using the metropolitan capital bank. Wanted me to deposit the check ASAP and pay the difference to a shipper. They cut off all communication once I told them I knew the check was fake.

The same story as the others here; daughter's wedding out of town, extra busy with work, a check with an excessive amount to deposit ($3300 for a $225 bike), need to deposit check ASAP, the rest goes to the "movers", origin of FedEx pkg is Tampa, FL, business is supposedly in Dallas TX, bank check from Huntington, CA., signature on check is illegible. Once I received the check, things didn't add up.

The wife offered to buy my bike rake for $250. Said that she was at her daughters wedding. Then her husband "Tony" was contacting me about sending me a check. I told him that I was working but he kept bothering me to get the check. The check was made out for $3,300. I had a bad feeling about it from the get go but it wasn't until the check came that I knew that it was for sure fraud. BEWARE.

This person and his wife Mary Palma contacted me via email and text for a Craigslist ad I posted. Sent me a check for $2200.89 when I was asking for around $175. I thankfully figured it out right away and told him via text that he was a scammer and I was reporting him. Be aware.

Toni and Mary Powell issued a check to me for $36000.00 telling me some to be paid to the shipper, well too bad for them they bought timeshare points and there is no shipping needed, i told them numerous times the points they were buying were virtual, i was not going to send anything anywhere till the check cleared. i expect to have the check refused.

In reference to a Craigslist sale: They sent a fraudulent Third Party check (verified by the bank) for $3,000 more than the agreed amount and requested that I give the remainder to a "mover" who will pick up the item or arrange for shipping. They could not get it in person because of a "daughter's wedding".

Craigslist scammer who offers to buy furniture, sends check to pay you and a shipper. Uses out of town for work and daughters wedding as reason to not meet. Bank listed on check was in Tennessee. They said was fraudulent.

Fed ex failed to deliver the first time will try UPS then check comes FED EX OVERNIGHT FROM SOME PLACE IN OHIO. Not a cashiers check. Check comes for $3200. Get text from oh the husband Toni look up phone number and it brings me to this site.

Same experience as everyone else on here. Claimed to be a husband/wife interested in buying a grill and busy planning their daughters wedding. Sent a money order for more than the agreed upon amount and demanded I deposit it ASAP. Claimed the extra amount would be for me to pay a delivery company to come get the grill but refused to tell me how much the delivery company was expecting to be paid. So clearly a scam.

Yet another Craigslist scammer. They told me to take a 50' x 1/2" plumbing snake off Craigslist and hold it for them. They said they were dealing with their daughter's wedding and couldn't come get it in person. They told me they'd send me a cashier's check and to foward the extra money to the shipping company. Check came in for $3000 more than the selling price. I immediately knew it was a scam. My husband used to work in banking and laughed at how bad the fake cashier's check was. Now it's time to toy with them and get them reported. Don't fall for the scam! Do everything in person on Craigslist. Information: Harry Kane email: [email protected] Address sent from: Anheuser-Busch 5638 East Kings Canyon Road Fresno CA The name on the UPS package is not his name. I hope the poor lady isn't getting scammed either.

Response to Craigslist posting for $875 kayak plus accessories. Same as above. Initial query from David Warner from "mike.davinciplumbing" followed up with email from Mary Palma ([email protected]). Said that due to a daughter's wedding, she could not show up in person and a shipper would show up. Sent a check for $2000+ more than asking price + $50 holding fee. I deposited it (with account # blanked out).. They wanted immediate sending of shippers amount. Have address where they wanted the money sent. Filed with FBI, our local Sheriffs office and bank. Hopefully they have not accessed our account. Since this all happened on a Friday, banks closed and also the bank's fraud dept. Wish I had seen this earlier.

Really never thought i would be a victim of scam, cant seem to wrap my head around how there are so many negative reviews and this number has not been restricted from being able to come back into the marketplace. Said he wanted to buy my washer and dryer, offering exactly the amount i put it up for but sent a cashiers check for 2,600 for items and "movers". On the day of the transition, he sends me a message saying he had a death in the family and that he was going to need the money back "urgently", and that he had already received the rest of the money for the movers... i thought it was super fishy but since he kept picking up my phone calls and claimed that he was speaking to his bank to get it all resolved I thought it would all work out but boy was i wrong.... beware and behold that God will always balance the books! Your karma is coming Thomas Nguyen!!!

Same story as the other complaints here. I was selling an older car on Craigslist. They texted me from this 305 area code number and agreed to pay full price for the car. They couldn't meet me in person because of daughter's wedding. I knew from the start this was a scam but I played along anyway. They sent me a cashier's check by FedEx from San Antonio, TX for $2,000 more than the price of the car and said they extra amount was to be forwarded to the shipping company to ship the car. The cashier's check looked they sent me looked very real. I called the bank it was drawn on in northern California and they confirmed the check was bogus. I continued to play along with the scammers, acting like I had deposited the check. They wanted me to mail a postal money order for $2000 to Holly B***** at a PO Box in Northwood, New Hampshire. I called the U.S. Postal Inspector Police and reported this scam. They said the person, Holly, with the PO Box in New Hampshire is likely a victim also. She will likely be asked to forward my check in the Bahamas for a "processing fee" and she doesn't even know that she's involved in a scam. I wonder how many innocent people actually fall for these scams and mail money to them only to find out a week later that the scammer's check has bounced. If you have an item for sale on Craigslist or anywhere else, NEVER send the buyer money. If they ask you to send them money and they can't meet you in person then it's a scam..

BEWARE! Another Craigslist check cashing scam. They wanted to send two checks, one for the item ($300) and one for the movers who were picking up several items in the area (amount unknown). The package arrived with one check in the amount of $1980.00 - they said it was a mistake but rather than cancel and reissue, they wanted me to cash it and once it cleared, pay the movers $1680.00. I followed through with depositing the check but then confirmed with my bank as well as the bank it was drawn that the check was fraudulent. Heri Son was the name he used on the craigslist reply, which requested I use the personal email [email protected], to which a reply came back from "Matthew Van <[email protected]>" and remained that way until the end. I was also contacted by [email protected], which asked for a Venmo payment to @ErikaE-Echevestre. Little does he know one of my best friends is a US Secret Service Officer and my neighbor is an agent at FBI HQ! BEWARE!

Used the name Wendi Partida on emails with the same story as others - out of town, daughter's wedding, paying full price plus extra to hold it, sending extra for shipping and shipping other items from the area. Sent FedEx tracking number and said check had arrived but it appears to have been received by some other address in our city and signed for by someone who is not here at our house. After check was to have arrived was contacted by husband "Tony" via a text using this phone number. I would guess the bogus check was supposed to have come to me so that I would send on a real check per their instructions. Fortunately Android flagged this as a spam phone number.

This started as an e-mail and text wanting to buy the furniture I had on Craigslist They stated they wanted the furniture but needed me to hold it until they sent a certified check for the price. Today the husband Toni called and said the check had been received and it had not. He then came back (TEXT) it would be delivered They gave me a tracking number (94704019210599577003)which I checked out and said the parcel would be delivered on Monday I have no idea what the item is or who it is for as it doesn't give the addressee. I sent a text back to him stating I plan to turn all the information over to the authorities I hope this informatin can be helpful to others
